HEISs is a Energy Research Frontier Center (EFRC) funded by the Department of Energy (DOE).  Northwestern University is the lead institution in this collaborative effort with Argonne National Laboratory, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Florida State University, Colorado School of Mines, University of Tennessee-Knoxville, and University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
